KRAKOW, A UNIQUE CITY BREAK

Nowhere else is quite like Krakow. The royal capital of Poland is a city born from the most mysterious of dreams, a place almost too fabulous to exist outside the pages of a fairytale. And yet here she is, calling out to you in a seductive voice. Demanding you spend a little time in her presence.

Krakow’s medieval square, one of the largest in Europe, is home to a famous Renaissance hall known as the Sukiennice. The square’s sides are sprinkled with an array of lovely churches. From the gothic towers of St Mary’s Basilica, a lone trumpeter is forever thwarted when attempting to finish his tune. Nearby, the 10th century church of St Wojciech has been inviting worshippers inside for more than a thousand years.

Ancient, cobbled lanes lead to Wawel Hill, legendary seat of a nation’s kings. Here, beside the Cathedral of Saints Stanislaus and Wenceslas, 12th century Silver Bell Tower and Renaissance castle, the city as we know her was born.

Never more beautiful than during the winter, Krakow is a must-visit on any holiday to Poland. Snow covers the city’s shoulders like a pristine white cloak. Her wonderful architecture shines like a diamond necklace, sparkling beneath the sun like a string of icy pearls.

 

Combining your ski trip with a couple of nights in Krakow guarantees a vacation like no other. For the French Alps,  Dolomites and powder bowls of North America cannot offer on their doorstep a city break of such culture, elegance and sophistication.

Shopaholics will be thrilled to learn the city boasts central Europe’s largest shopping mall, complementing perfectly the countless independent stores found in the historic quarter.  Poland being so much cheaper than the UK and Ireland, the tightest budget promises to go a long, long way.

 

Meanwhile, night owls will be just as happy. For, as befits the nation that gave the world vodka, the Poles really do know how to party!
